Dublin's licensing court is expected to face a “rush” of applications for pubs to open as restaurants. Under the government’s roadmap to lifting covid 19 restrictions restaurants and cafes can open in phase three, from June 29, but pubs, bars, nightclubs, and casinos have to keep their doors closed until phase five begins on August 10 next. The Northern Ireland Executive has published a five-point plan to relax Covid-19 restrictions. It notes that as of 10 May, 33,440 individuals in the North had been tested for Covid-19, with 4,149 laboratory-confirmed cases and 438 reported deaths, adding that although overall case numbers are continuing to rise, it is at a slower rate than before. It also notes a "gradual decline" in both hospital admissions and intensive care unit occupancy, "reflecting a reduction in transmission of the virus here and progression of the epidemic". Hotels need to protect their owner’s investment and cash flows and, at the same time, safeguard the team from the virus and ensure they are prepared, supported and trained effectively to work in a new environment as hospitality experts. All management teams need to establish an action plan to ensure the safe opening of the hotel and make sufficient resources available to ensure that the plan, once developed, can be implemented effectively and quickly. Michels & Taylor, a UK hotel asset management company, have published a post-COVID Hotel Reopening Guide. "After four months, it is time to get Europe flying again so we can reunite friends and families, allow people to return to work, and restart Europe’s tourism industry," Ryanair says Ryanair will restore 40pc of its scheduled flights from July 1, with passengers asked to wear face masks and pass temperature checks, it says.
The Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD, has published the National “Return to Work Safely Protocol”. The Protocol clearly and comprehensively sets out the steps and processes that businesses must take to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace. ‘There is a future- there is a to-morrow’, chef, restaurateur and hotelier Richard Corrigan said to-day (Thursday 7th May). He was participating in the latest ‘The Firm Optimist’ on-line discussion with Nicky Logue, general manager of The Dublin Intercontinental Hotel, moderated by Micheline Corr of recruitment consultants ‘The Firm’. The purpose of this webinar is to provide an overview of the effect that Covid-19 has had on the Irish foodservice market since Government restrictions and social distancing measures were put in place. It will examine innovations from foodservice operators and distributors on the domestic market, and likely further developments in the short to medium term. It will also share examples of Irish food and drink producers that have had to adapt their businesses in the face of lost revenue from hospitality customers.
