Following engagement with, and feedback from, across the industry, the CRU has decided to postpone compulsory registration for commercial (non-domestic) gas installers. Mandatory registration for commercial gas installers was due to commence from January 2019. This postponement is to allow more time to ensure the introduction of this important regulatory change is as smooth as possible.
The postponement delays the requirement for commercial gas works to be only carried out by a Registered Gas Installer (RGI). The CRU said ‘We apologise if this causes any inconvenience: as soon as possible we will provide information on when the new regulations will apply. Please note, the delay to registration in the commercial gas sector will not affect domestic gas installers. All residential gas works should continue to be by an RGI only.’
New timelines for the regulation of commercial gas works will be announced shortly.
