New research from BWG Foods reveals people’s plans and top picks for dining out this Christmas

  • It also shows that people are planning on dining out 3 times on average over the festive season

BWG has unveiled new consumer research to mark the launch of the BWG Foodservice Christmas Brochure for 2025, offering valuable insights into Ireland’s festive dining habits and preferences.
The research reveals that Cheesecake is Ireland’s most popular Christmas dessert, followed closely by Sticky Toffee Pudding, while Apple Pie ranks lowest on the table for the festive season.

The findings also show the public plan to dine out three times on average over the Christmas period, highlighting strong demand for seasonal menus and hospitality experiences.

The BWG Foodservice Christmas Brochure 2025 is designed to support chefs and foodservice operators with a curated range of festive food and drink options. This year’s edition features elevated classics, nostalgic flavours, and playful cocktails, alongside menu concepts for every daypart to support operators with their dining service - while saving time in the kitchen.

 It’s also packed with festive favourites like turkey butterfly, whole hams, and G’s Gourmet Cranberry Sauce, plus comforting treats like Apple & Vanilla Strudel.

Commenting on the launch, Ricky O’Brien, BWG Foodservice Director, said:

BWG Foodservice continues to champion local Irish suppliers, working with over 130 partners across the country, from large-scale producers to cottage industry businesses. Many of these supply BWG’s exclusive Chef’s Kitchen own brand range, offering premium quality at great value.

QR codes throughout the brochure allow customers to explore the full offering in more detail, with next-day delivery available six days a week.

About the Research
Conducted by Empathy Research in October 2025, this nationally representative survey of over a thousand Irish adults reveals that Christmas remains a vibrant season for dining out, with the average person planning 3 meals out during the festive period.

In relation to dessert, Cheesecake reigns supreme, topping the list as the most preferred Christmas treat, with Sticky Toffee Pudding emerging as a consistent crowd-pleaser. The rankings in order include:
  1. Cheescake
  2. Sticky Toffee Pudding
  3. Roulade
  4. Christmas Pudding Log
  5. Ice-Cream
  6. Sorbet
  7. Profiteroles
  8. Chocolate Brownie
  9. Tiramisu
  10. Apple Pie
