Four Dublin streets are set to be pedestrianised as the city prepares for an outdoor summer amid easing of Covid restrictions. Dublin City Council confirmed that work has begun to pedestrianise the streets to facilitate outdoor dining. The Council is also being lobbied to restrict traffic on Merrion Row. From Monday May 24, the following four streets will be either traffic-free, or have sections of them traffic-free daily after 11am.
The council say the decision was made following a number of successful trial runs last July and August. “The plans for pedestrianising the streets were also issued for consultation in November 2020 and 97% of respondents were in favour. Originally scheduled to be introduced in January 2021, the plans were put on hold when Level 5 restrictions were introduced. “With the recent easing of restrictions and with the resumption of all construction activity, Dublin City Council can now undertake the works to put the pedestrianisation plans in place. “Dublin City Council is also working on plans to increase pedestrian and dining space in other parts of the City and will issue further information in due course,” it added.
