In 2019, Irish consumers will spend €8.55 billion on out of home food & beverage

Bord Bia's annual Foodservice Seminar took place this week in the Kilashee House Hotel, Co. Kildare. 

The event, attended by over 300 foodservice professionals comprised presentations from industry representatives along with the publication of the Market and Consumer Insights Report 2019.

Some of the key findings reported included:
  • The €8.55 billion spend in 2019 represents a 4.5% increase on 2018
  • 91% of all consumer spending is found in venues such as quick service restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and cafes, full-service restaurants and pubs.
  • 35% of consumer spend in the commercial channel is found in limited service restaurants (LSR's) with 12% attributed to full service restaurants (FSR's).
  • Expectations for the next three years have been revised down since last year's study and the industry should expect some maturity and deceleration through 2022 - overall island of Ireland growth is expected to be 4.2% measured in euros through 2022.
