BWG Group (“BWG”) today announces that it has successfully completed the acquisition of Heaney Meats Catering Co Limited (“Heaney Meats”), a large supplier of premium quality meat products to the foodservice sector in Ireland. This follows clearance of the acquisition by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on 10th January 2020.
Commenting on the completion of the transaction, Leo Crawford, Group CEO, BWG Group, said:
“We are delighted to have completed the acquisition of Heaney Meats which will expand and enhance our meat offering and further strengthen our market leading position in the +€2 billion foodservice sector. Heaney Meats is very well regarded, delivers a great service to its customers across Ireland and we now look forward to working with them to further grow our combined business.”
Heaney Meats specialises in the preparation and distribution of premium quality beef, lamb, poultry, pork and bacon to the foodservice sector. The company, which was founded by Shayne and Kenneth Heaney in 1996, has annual sales of approximately €24 million and employs 75 people at its facility in Galway. The business has been the recipient of multiple industry awards and has developed well-invested supply chain operations that include a fleet of 25 refrigerated vehicles. Generations of the Heaney family have been master butchers stretching back over 300 years.
The acquisition of Heaney Meats is consistent with BWG’s future ambition and strategy for growth and follows the Group’s latest foodservice acquisition of Corrib Food Products. BWG Group will now seek to grow Heaney Meats and enhance its service to customers nationwide by leveraging BWG’s considerable experience and expertise, along with its market leading supply chain.
Heaney Meats will continue to be led by its current Managing Directors Shayne and Kenneth Heaney.
Following eight years of consecutive growth, BWG’s foodservice business has seen its annual sales increase to over €150 million, before the acquisition of Heaney Meats, and it is now a leader in the foodservice sector in Ireland. The strong growth has been driven by ongoing investment across BWG’s nationwide foodservice supply chain, the continuous expansion of its product range and targeted acquisitions of well-established complementary businesses like Heaney Meats. The business, which adopts a collaborative approach with customers and suppliers, has developed an expansive and innovative product range.
