The Irish Tourism Industry Confederation expressed significant disappointment that tourism had not been included within an economic portfolio. Eoghan O’Mara Walsh, CEO of ITIC, said “It is regrettable that an industry that employs 265,000 people and contributes €9.3 billion to the economy has not been included within an Economic Ministry by the new Government. Covid19 has decimated the industry and there is a huge task ahead, and therefore to not be included
within an economic or business portfolio is very disappointing”. O’Mara Walsh wished Catherine Martin well in her role as Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sports and the Gaeltacht and said the industry was looking forward to working with her. He said the July stimulus package needed to deliver for tourism as per the Programme for Government: “Tourism is the economic lifeblood of regional Ireland and needs to be thought of as an engine of growth, exchequer returns, and employment.” Comments are closed.
