The Coronavirus Global Response pledging marathon
On 4 May, the European Commission hosted a Coronavirus Global Response pledging event, aiming at leveraging €7.5 billion to start developing and deploying effective diagnostics, treatments and a vaccine. During the international pledging conference on 4 May, € 5.5 billion were promised.

On 1 May, the European Central bank published a set of three “alternative scenarios” on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on economic activity in the euro area.
The EU action to fight the COVID-19 crisis
On 4 May, the European Parliament’s Vice Presidents in charge of Communication issued a press release calling national authorities to do more to raise awareness of the EU’s action to fight the COVID-19 crisis and to fight disinformation in this respect.
The global response: Working together to help the world get better
On 3 May ahead of the pledging conference organised on 4 May, the Commission published an oped, co-authored by Giuseppe Conte, Prime Minister of Italy, Emmanuel Macron, President of France, Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, Charles Michel, President of the European Council, Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway, Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, calling to support the global response in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.
